Q: I have heard estimates ranging from 2.6% to 6.2%. This month's CPI didn't help much. So, anybody got the word yet? Me: Thanks bro'...that pretty much dovetails with what I've heard. The 9/16 numbers really screwed things up in the CPI.
A: Ranges of increase for SS recipients and some retired Federal Employees including Postal Employees was 2.8%. It was rejected and is projected to be 5.7 to 6.2% but time will tell. Currently it is projected at 5.7% (July 2008). Check out federalnewsradio.com for future updates. CPI data for August are scheduled for release on Sept. 16. Next year's COLA or the COLA for 2009 will be announced on Oct. 16.
