is it possible to go from a 68w to an 11b in the army if you haven't completed your AIT yet? or do you have to?

Q: go through the training at Ft. Sam and fail out before they'll move you? I'm asking because my boyfriend is currently at Ft. Sam for 68w and he's already having a really stressful time. He had said that he wishes he was still at Ft. Benning where he graduated BCT. I was just wondering if it was a possibility. He's only been at Ft. Sam for 5 days.... he started on monday. 9/15

A: Maybe. If you purposefully double tap (Fail two exams), you can decide to go for a new MOS, but you will have to choose between a couple of different MOSs that are needed by the Army. So while the Army may need more Infantry, there it is not a for sure thing that it will be an option for you to choose 11B as your new one. BTW: Don't give up, keep going for 68W. In the long run, you can be attached to infantry guys, and after the EMT portion of the training you receive much more combat oriented training. ****EDIT***** How long has a been at Ft Sam? The first couple of months are just like Basic all over again, lots of smoking, lots of BS for no reason. But if he gives it some time, things will get better, I promise. He will be able to go to San Antonio, see the Alamo, do things that will make life at Ft Sam suck much much less. But he has to wait for those things to come, and know that they are coming. Things may be hard, but purposefully failing to get out would be a major mistake, and one that he won't be able to take back.
