Q: 1- Is it actually true recruits in Basic in the Army can go home on Christmas, provided they're willing to use some of their leave and pay their own ticket home and back? (and I was told Air Force and Coast Guard as well, but not Marines and I'm unsure about Navy)?
A: Yes, you are given Exodus leave if you are in basic or AIT during Christmas. I ended up going on it after only two weeks of basic, so it made it that much harder to come back and I didn't get leave after AIT because of it. It is charged to your leave and you have to pay your way home.
