Q: Now, we all know that Ike was the last General to be President, but since Ike's first term (1952), how many US Presidents were former Naval officers? Second, how many US Vice Presidents were former Naval officers? I don't want the number...just the names. For now, let's leave out the former naval officers who are running, or who have run, for those offices...like Stockdale, Perot, and McCain. I've got to take off, so I'll give you the answers now: VP?: Nixon LBJ Ford George H. W. Bush Prez?: Kennedy LBJ Nixon Ford Carter George H. W. Bush BTW: Barry Goldwater was the last General to get a party nomination for Prez. Wes Clark is the last 4-star General to announce candidacy. BTW, both LBJ and George H. W. Bush were shot down in combat. LBJ got a Silver Star.
A: Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon Ford, Carter and George Herbert Walker Bush were Presidents. I served under all except for President Bush the Elder, plus Eisenhower and Reagan. Johnson, Nixon, Bush the Elder, and Ford were Vice Presidents at one time.
