does any one think the U S A well ever be invaded?

Q: if so what country do you think it would be?

A: Ferret, I'm a conservative voter, and pro America. However, I do believe that at some point we will be invaded. I don't have any doubt about it. Why you may ask? Well, look back over the course of 5000 years. People haven't changed. We'd like to think we are different now than when the Mongol horde swept across Asia, but WWII was only 60something years ago. Hitler was a monster. The disturbing part was that he got an entire country on board with him. Now - consider the preponderance of evidence and leaders like him: Pol Pot (Cambodia), Lenin, Stalin, Mao Tse Tung, Alexander the "Great", Genghis Khan and the rest of the Khans, Nero, and so on. Did any of these dudes worry about the strength of their vanquished to be? No. How did they treat people at the bottom, in particular the enemy? They pretty much killed or tortured them or starved them. Now, I ask - do we think that a person of this nature will never come to power again over a large enough country to kick our hineys? If so, consider all the other super-powers that ever existed in written history. Quite a few went on for several hundred years. How many are around today? (with a remotely similar government). Kiss goodbye to: The Mayans, Incans, and the Aztecs, and before that, the Olmecs and Toltecs. The Romans, The British empire is similar but lost everywhere but Ireland and Scotland, and that argument isn't over. The Russians under the Tsars/Czars (?) Asia under the Mongols Eurasia under the Moors/Turks No single form of government over a large land mass has ever maintained control of it without being beaten by a conquering nation for more than a few hundred years - call it about 500. Eventually - we will face a country that will believe they can beat us. If we are not ready, they will. Many in this country (most) would think I am nutty for looking at things in this kind of time frame and worrying about it, but when I saw Clinton dismantling the military to half the size it had been, and what has gone on in the world since, and the fact that the world population was 4 billion when I was a kid, and now it's over 6? 2 different countries (India and China) are at one billion or more each - well, I see this stuff, and I worry. We have a small fraction of the world population in the US, and a humongous land mass, which is for all practical purposes unpopulated (drive to Seattle from Texas before arguing this fact. You'll go for hours without a radio station at times, and this - on the interstate hwy). We have natural resources out the wazzoo, and many of them virtually untapped. Do you think the Chinese would hesitate to drill in ANWR? At some point, someone, somewhere, is going to desperately need these resources and they will be crazy enough, and will have a big enough country behind them to come and get what they want. It's not a matter of if. It's a matter of when. It might not be for 300 years, but it will happen. If we intend to keep our country, we will need to be willing to defend it, and strong enough and prepared enough to do so. -Kevin
