What Can I Do About My Boss Cheating Me On Overtime?

Q: Ok a 2 week period. I work full-time everyday let's say 11:30-8 and a 40 hour week period. Well from the 5th to the 20th there were 3 mondays this week would that day count as a new week? Anyways I worked 90 hours and I covered that persons shift should that be overtime if past 40 hours that week? I think my boss is cheating me on overtime. What should I do and what can I do. He is very cheap and if I go up and talk to him I don't think it will do any good.

A: ASK someone. Just ask for clarification, as in "Whoa, I could have sworn I worked more hours than that." In the mean time, try to figure out what defines a pay week- is it Monday thru Sunday, Saturday thru Friday? It has to be more than 40 hours over the course of your pay week to count as overtime. Also, your example above of a 2-week period (the 5th to the 20th) is actually 2 weeks plus 2 days. If you are counting all your hours for this time period, it could be throwing your numbers off. If you are really being cheated, start keeping track of your hours, and start looking for another job. If I were you, on my last day I would present my demand for overtime pay and evidence supporting it on my last day of work.
