Q: If you lived under a government that you thought had unfair rules, would you protest? Example: You are a writer that wrote a politically inflammatory book and police/government tried to stop you from distributing it. Would you let them arrest you? Would you give in? Would you react violently? thank you, i very much agree. i added that last choice "react violently" because I wanted to know if anyone would. what are you talking about "what's happening right now" the gas prices? that election? the war?
A: Civil disobedience is a conscious decision not to follow a particular law that you feel is wrong. It is a form of protest, but all protest is not civil disobedience, unless protest itself is illegal (which sometimes it is!) But its important to realize that the decision to do civil disobedience also includes the willingness to accept the consequences. One is not immune to the law simply because breaking it was an act of protest. People who practice civil disobedience have always been willing to accept the consequences, to be arrested and punished. Otherwise it's just being a scofflaw.
