Q: if not, why can gay marriage be banned. i am not gay and i am christian, but i still would like a logical explanation as to why we can take away others rights as human beings, simply because we dont approve. its pure ignorance being married is NOT a "special right"
A: Are our laws in America based on religion? No. And they must never be. Our Founding Fathers said so. The term "Religio" applies to whispered mystical instructions about the conditions of categorically different--better or worse--otherworld. The ways of another space-time called "paradise" do not work on Earth--you can only approximate them by giving up this world for the next, reason for faith and living in a monastic order (approximating conditions of your new supposed life to come as instructed). People who live in a secular real-world system can believe in religion--they can't practice it because they're not where its rules operate toward supposed success. You have to be in holy orders to be holy. Early Christians knew this--the early Church authorities had to pass rules telling folks not to commit suicide because the converts knew they couldn't live on earth by their ideas and succeed. Real world rights can't depend on sexual orientation, permission by dictators, public interest lawmaking tyranny or pseudo-religionists' whims. Gays and lesbians need the same rights as anyone else--especially in "personal choice" limited partnership contracts, aka marital contracts--which differ from others only in that they offer a possible sexual exclusivity clause to both parties if they choose to invoke it. Otherwise, this is a value for value contract like any other--the right of the individual(s) involved is to sign it. Anyone who says otherwise is un-American, and should not be empowered to harm honest adult responsible citizens by his or her ideological illegal insanity and criminal actions. Period.
