Q: My girlfriend, who is a confessed addict is going to court for two VOPs. She already in jail and the court date is this monday. What are the options for her. Her Public Defender said she was going to do hard time. She has never hurt anyone but herself with her addiction. She has never done a violent crime, just fail the U/A. She wants to get clean for good, but prison is likely to turn her into something worse than she is.
A: She has committed an offense before, she will probably do it again. She needs help for her addiction, but I do not think she will get it in prison. If she manages to stay clean in prison, Ha, ha, she will come out looking for more with a vengeance. She needs inpatient/ outpatient care for at least 1 year. I am basing my comment on ( Meth, Oxy, Alcohol, ect.) It takes this long, to give a person a chance, to make a drug free choice at life. Once you are an addict, you are for life, Do not be fooled. She can only over come, one day at a time. She will learn a support system and self-help technics in her journey, and much more. If you use, stay away from her.
