Q: I am European and have lived and worked in the UK for the past 10 years. I will move home to my native country in about two months. I would like to know whether I will receive a pension from the UK (based on the NI contributions I have made) when I reach that age?
A: What you need to do is check if there an agreement between your country & the UK where your National Insurance contributions will be counted towards a state pension in your home country. This link has some information & you should be able to contact the Inland Revenue with any questions you may have. http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/cnr/osc.htm http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/BritonsLivingAbroad/BeforeYouGo/DG_4000018 It might also be worth your while seeing if your local Citizens Advice Bureau has someone who can advise you. www.citizensadvice.org.uk
