Help with an Italian Passport?

Q: I live in Australia and my mother is Italian (born in Italy) and she came to Australia when she was 5. She gave up her italian citizenship in 1967 and I was born in 1983. My grandmother also gave up her italian citizenship at the same time. I dont think I can get the passport the normal way because mum gave up her citzenship before i was born but I was wondering if mum got a passport could then i get one? Hope that makes sense. Please let me know especially if I am wrong! Thanks

A: You sure can try for it. Contact the nearest Italian embassy and ask them what to do.
