Do U.S. embassies overseas have vaccines for babies? ?

Q: I live in Dalian, China (the nearest consulate is in Shenyang). My French friend said that she took her baby to the French embassy where they had a clinic and provided the same vaccines as are available in France. I checked the Shenyang U.S. embassy website but couldn't find any info relating to whether or not they provide anything like that. Does anyone know?

A: When I was in China, et al, none of the US Embassies or consulates maintained any clinics. If you call/contact the Citizens Affairs person at the nearest consulate, they will have a list of doctors who speak English in various areas. Since you're in Dalian (I quite liked Dalian!), Shanghai is only an overnight boat trip away, and is the most likely place to have the vaccines, if they are available in China. Frankly, given China's records for pirating & counterfeiting vaccines and medicines, I would not take my child to anyone anywhere in China for vaccinations. I would definitely go to Hong Kong! The US consulate on Garden Road (Mid-levels), Hong Kong, was always very good about knowing doctors, dentists, etc. who were suitable. Good excuse for a quick trip to Hongkers, too.
